Tin Ducks
The Tin Duck Awards are the Western Australian Science Fiction Achievement awards. They are given out annually at SWANCON and voted on by members of the convention.
Pins
Pins are given out every year to those who have attended 20, 33 and 42 SWANCONs.
Mikey
The Mikey Award is to commemorate the fantastic work Michael O’Brien did teaching games to newcomers, encouraging fans and contributing to the enjoyment of play of others at SWANCON. Mikey brought so much joy to the games room of SWANCON in years past, and the Mikey Award was instituted to celebrate that in future gaming streams. Any member of SWANCON that shows the same attitudes in the gaming room may be nominated.
Marge Hughes
The Marge Hughes award is a Western Australian sf award for contributions to fandom which are not otherwise acknowledged. It is informally known as “The Mumfan”. The award is not necessarily given annually, although historically this has proved to be the case in practice.
The following awards are awarded at a Natcon. the natcon in 2016 is contact, located in Brisbane. Swancon41 is not a natcon.
Ditmars
The Ditmar Award (formally the Australian SF (“Ditmar”) Award; formerly the “Australian Science Fiction Achievement Award”) has been awarded annually since 1969 at the Natcon to recognise achievement in Australian science fiction (including fantasy and horror) and science fiction fandom. They are named for Ditmar “Dick” Jenssen, an Australian fan and artist, who financially supported the awards at their inception.
A. Bertram Chandler
The Chandler Award is presented by the Australian Science Fiction Foundation for “Outstanding Achievement in Australian Science Fiction”.
It is named in recognition of the contribution that science fiction writer A. Bertram Chandler made to Australian science fiction, and because of his patronage of the Foundation.
Norma K. Hemming
The Norma K. Hemming Award is presented for “excellence in the exploration of themes of race, gender, sexuality, class and disability: in the form of science fiction and fantasy or related artwork or media”.
Peter McNamara Achievement
The Peter McNamara Achievement Award (aka. “The Mac”) is a lifetime achievement award presented in honour of the late Peter NcNamara at the Australian National SF Convention awards ceremony. The award was inaugurated by Robert N. Stephenson.
